Literature Text

i am not a disease.
       don't cure me.
i am not broken.
       don't fix me.
i am not a mistake.
       don't erase me.

i'm screaming.
       i'm screaming.
can't you hear me?

i want to see you.
       i want to meet you.
i want to heal you.
       i want to feel you.
i want you to know
       you're so much more
              than you think you are.
i want to see you smile.
i want to hear your voice.
i want to breathe your air
       just once.
              please.
       let me live.
              let me be.

this can't be what you wanted.
this can't be what you meant to
       be.
don't i know you better than that?
don't you hear my heart beating
       right here inside you?

here i am,
       here i am!
i'm living,
       i'm breathing,
i'm screaming!
       mother, mother,
              hear me!

              why can't you hear me?
       why are you breaking me?
why are you forsaking me?

       oh, mother
m o t h e r . . .
       why did you forsake me?

does it make you feel better
       to know you're in control?
would it make you feel better
to hold the gun in your hands
       and be in control
              of
              e v e r y t h i n g . . .

and take them all away?
and take the pain away?

did it take your pain away
              to take my life away?

m o t h e r . . .
       i need you already.
       i forgive you already.
       i miss you already
but i never saw your face.

m o t h e r . . .
       i hope you'll forgive me
              for being your disease
                     for being your cancer
              for being your mistake.
